FAQ’s
Is rowing a club sport?
No. Rowing is an NCAA Division I Varsity sport at WVU, not a club sport.
Do I need experience?
No. Our job is to teach you how to become a successful student-athlete.
Can I do it with my major?
We have had student-athletes from all types of majors in our program. If they allow it, we work with you as much as possible to be able to row.
What can I do to prepare?
All you need to be is athletic and in good shape. Cardiovascular and basic upper body, lower body, and core strength are what you will need. The most important thing is to work hard, not just work out.
What will the tryouts be like?
You will be tested on running, circuits, and other activities that test both your fitness and your mental fortitude.
Who can try out?
Anyone who is a full-time female student in good academic standing.
When do we practice?
Practices will be based on student-athletes schedules. Typical practice times are 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and last approximately two hours. In season we practice up to 20 hours per week. Out of season, we practice up to eight hours per week.
