Mountaineers Continue Homestand Sunday
April 13, 2019 05:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team continues its spring homestand at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Sunday, April 14, with a visit from Virginia at noon.
Admission is free and open to the public.
A 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifier, the Cavaliers advanced to the third round before falling 2-1 to Baylor.
"Sunday is another great opportunity for us to compete against a quality opponent like Virginia," Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "We're going to learn a lot about ourselves. As we continue to face these NCAA Tournament qualifiers each week, we see which areas need improvement so we can be at that level next season. I'm excited about the advancement of our development."
Sunday is the Mountaineers' second match in as many weeks against a 2018 NCAA Tournament participant. Last week, WVU dropped a 2-1 decision to Georgetown on April 7 at Dick Dlesk Stadium. Newcomer Gabby Robinson put the Mountaineers ahead just three minutes in, but the Hoyas answered with a pair of late second-half goals.
"We had a lot of young mistakes," Izzo-Brown said of the Mountaineers' performance. "We need to eliminate those mistakes, and the good news is we can. Everything is fixable. We want to make as many mistakes as we can this spring so they are eliminated by the fall."
Junior Rylee Foster made four stops for the Mountaineers.
