MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team opens its 2019 spring season against Sky Blue FC on Saturday, March 23, at 3 p.m., at Sportika Sports in Manalapan, New Jersey.
A member of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), Sky Blue's roster currently features 2017 WVU All-American Amandine Pierre-Louis.
"We're very excited to open our spring season," Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "Any time you can challenge yourself against a professional team, you're going to learn a lot about your own team. Saturday's match is a great opportunity for our squad to see where we stand during this important time of our year. We're looking forward to a tough match and learning where we need to improve."
The Mountaineers embark on their spring season following a 2018 campaign which saw them win their ninth Big 12 Conference title with a 3-0 victory over No. 9 Baylor in the conference championship title match on Nov. 4. WVU finished the year with a 15-4-4 (7-2) record and qualified for its 19th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the fifth-longest streak nationally.
