Izzo-Brown Unveils Spring Slate

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women's soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown announced today the Mountaineers' 2019 spring schedule.
After again opening the spring with a trip to National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) member Sky Blue FC in March, WVU will face three collegiate opponents at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in April.
"We put together a really tough spring schedule for our team," Izzo-Brown said. "This schedule will give us a true picture of where we need to go with this team and will show us how to get there, too. I think the spring will be educational for this team, as we lost such a big senior class."
The Mountaineers kick at Sky Blue FC on Saturday, March 23, at 3 p.m. Sky Blue FC's roster currently features former Mountaineer All-American Amandine Pierre-Louis.
WVU returns to action on Sunday, April 7, with a 2 p.m. match against Georgetown at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Hoyas have competed at the NCAA College Cup in two of the last three seasons. The following week, WVU will face Virginia on Sunday, April 14, at noon, before wrapping up its spring slate on Saturday, April 27, against Maryland, at 2 p.m. Both matches will kick at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
WVU officially opens its spring season on Sunday, Feb. 24, with its annual 4-versus-4 tournament "Three's a Team…the Fourth's a Mountaineer" event. The tournament will take place inside the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility, located next to Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium.
"This is such a great event for so many reasons, but one real driving force that I know our student-athletes love is that they get to interact with the community," Izzo-Brown said. "Whether it's girls or boys, we love being around youth players who love the game as much as we do. Sunday is all about having fun and raising money to fight cancer. We're looking forward to interacting with our fans and thanking the community for supporting us in this fight. I'm looking forward to a great day of pink soccer."
The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. There also will be an open division for college age students and adults. Teams can be male, female or co-ed. Due to NCAA regulations, no individuals in high school may participate.
Each team of three players will be paired with a WVU women's soccer student-athlete or Mountaineer coach. There is a $75 entry fee, and all proceeds benefit Morgantown's Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.
Registration for the tournament closes Feb. 20. Fans can download a registration form at WVUsports.com/camps.
The Mountaineers raised more than $8,000 in donations for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center in 2018, and in 14 years, the program has raised more than $131,000 for breast cancer research.
