
WVU Concludes Fall at Duquesne

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team concludes its fall season against Duquesne, as the novice squad travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to scrimmage the Dukes on Friday, Nov. 8.
"We are looking forward to our racing tomorrow," WVU assistant coach Tina Griffith said. "It is a great way to finish the fall season and a taste of what is to come."
Three Mountaineer boats compete against the Dukes in a series of races up and down the Allegheny River. Friday's scrimmage is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:20 a.m. ET.
This season marks the seventh consecutive season WVU has competed against Duquesne. Last season, the Mountaineers competed against the Dukes twice in the fall.
Lineups for tomorrow's scrimmage are listed below, from stroke to bow:
1st Novice 8: Coxswain: Lucie Steinmetz; Madison Lindung, Taylor Mooers, Marissa Venezia, Kalyse Wood, Madison Schauer, Lisa Eller, Kara Phelps, Rebecca McCracken
2nd Novice 8: Coxswain: Isabelle Hidalgo; Laura Yates, Lindsey Crum, Michaela Pulick, Ruth Mierzejewski, Elizabeth Cassidy, Meredith Pavlovich, Pareera Uqaily, Alexis Moody
Novice 4: Coxswain: Amanda Starliper; Alexandria Fabiano, Calla Solomon, Kathleen Meldrum, Gabrielle Riggleman
NOTES: The 2019-20 season marks the 21st season of competition for the Mountaineer rowing program ... WVU coach Jimmy King enters his 12th season at the helm of the Mountaineers ... this year's squad is comprised of 62 student-athletes, including 29 returners and 33 newcomers ... West Virginia added 29 members to its novice squad on Sept. 12 ... Saturday's regatta marked the first intercollegiate competition for 29 student-athletes, who were named to the novice squad on Sept. 12 ... this season marks the 12th time WVU has competed at the Head of the Occoquan ... through two races this fall, West Virginia has raced its way to 12 top-five finishes, eight top-three finishes and four within the top two, including one first-place finish.
