MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer welcomes No. 14 Texas Tech in the first of a three-game homestand on Thursday, October 10. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET.
WVU will host its annual Soctober Fest on Thursday, with the first 200 fans receiving a WVU koozie. There also will be a variety of Oktoberfest-themed food options offered at the concessions stands throughout the contest.
Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting
WVUGAME.com to avoid lines at the gate on game day. When purchasing online, tickets are $5 each and $3 for groups of 10 or more. All tickets are general admission.
At the stadium ticket window, tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for youth and seniors and $3 for groups on game day. The discounted online pricing will be available until kickoff of the match.
WVU students are admitted for free with a valid WVU Student I.D.
"Thursday's match is a huge match," WVU coach
Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "We have the 14th best team in country coming to town, and we know that every point matters at this point in the season."
Thursday's match marks the 11th meeting between the Mountaineers and the Red Raiders.
West Virginia is 7-2-1 all-time against Texas Tech and has outscored TTU, 18-10, in the 10 meetings.
The Mountaineers earned a 2-0 win over TTU in Lubbock last season after
Lauren Segalla earned her second career game-winning goal in the 47th minute, before Stefany Ferrer- vanGinkel netted an insurance goal in the 64th minute to deal Texas Tech its first home loss of the 2018 season.
The Mountaineers are 5-0-1 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this season and 25-2-2 all-time in home Big 12 matches.
The Mountaineers enter the contest with a 7-4-1 overall record and a 2-1 record in league play after splitting a pair of matches a pair of matches on the road last week. WVU fell to Baylor, 4-2, on Oct. 3, before defeating Texas, 2-1, on Oct. 6, in Austin.
WVU and BU combined to score six goals in the second half of the match last Thursday. Baylor opened scoring in the 50th minute of play, before West Virginia knotted the game at one in the 58th minute. The Bears went on to score three unanswered goals in the 57th, 60th and 74th minutes, respectively. Sophomore
Lizzie Mayfield used a left-footed shot from 25-yards out to net her first goal of the year with six minutes left in the game.
WVU bounced back on Sunday, as sophomore
Addison Clark scored a golden goal in double overtime to give the Mountaineers a 2-1 win over Texas. Freshman
Enzi Broussard opened scoring in the 48th minute after using a perfectly-placed cross from
Jessica Lisi before UT netted the equalizer in the 78th minute. After battling for 25 more minutes, Clark scored the golden goal just three minutes into the second overtime to give WVU its second conference win of the year.
West Virginia ranks No. 7 nationally and leads the Big 12 Conference with 7.58 corner kicks per game this season. WVU also has outscored opponents, 24-17, this season, while holding a 196-114 advantage in shots over its counterparts. The Mountaineers have shined in the final 45 minutes of play this season, edging opponents 16-9 in goals and 107-52 in shots in the second half.
Texas Tech is 10-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Big 12 after defeating Iowa State, 1-0, in double overtime on Oct. 3. The Lady Raiders are riding a 10-match unbeaten streak into Thursday's contest and are currently second in the Big 12.
Junior Kirsten Davis leads Texas Tech in points (28), goals (11) and assists (6) this season. Davis is fifth in the country in total points and ranks eighth in total goals. She leads the Big 12 in both categories. Classmate Marissa Zucchetto is the projected starter between the posts for TTU. She has a record of 6-1 and ranks No. 41 nationally and No. 1 in the Big 12 in goals against average (0.69).
Tom Stone is in his 13th season as the head coach at Texas Tech. He boasts a 149-80-29 record at the helm and led the Red Raiders to their fifth appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
