
WVU Finishes Day Two at The Tavistock

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team capped the second day of play at The Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the Mountaineers and UCF, at Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Florida, on Monday.
After struggling with a 303 in the first round, the Mountaineers improved by ten strokes to shoot a five-over-par team score of 293 on Monday. The team's two-round total of 596 puts them in 15th place at 20-over-par. UCF leads the pack at 21-under, followed by No. 2 Texas Tech and No. 21 Vanderbilt in second at four-under-par.
Junior Logan Perkins sits in a tie for 34th place at three-over-par with a score of 72-75=147. Starting on No. 10, he registered a pair of birdies and a bogey to make the turn at one-under but capped the round with a bogey and a double-bogey to shoot three-over-par.
Senior Etienne Papineau is a stroke back, tied for 42nd place with a score of 78-70=148 for four-over-par. Papineau balanced five birdies and three bogeys to shave eight strokes off his first-round score to finish two-under-par in the second.
Junior Matthew Sharpstene used four birdies to finish even-par in the second round. His 36-hole total of 77-72=149 puts him in 49th place at five-over-par.
Freshman Nico Lang is tied for 62nd place with a score of 76-76=152 for eight-over-par, while junior Mark Goetz shot 80-78=158 and is in 74th place at 14-over.
West Virginia embarks on the third and final round starting at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. The Mountaineers are paired with Minnesota and South Carolina.
At the Musketeers Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio, senior Philipp Matlari shot a two-under-par 69 to sit tied for fourth place after one round. Sophomore Kurtis Grant is tied for 40th at three-over with a 74, while freshman Christian Boyd is seven-over-par and in 73rd place with a 78.
