MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four-year starter Easther Mayi Kith of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has signed a contract to play professionally with Montpellier HSC, a member of Ligue 1, the top level of French professional soccer.
"I'm so excited for Easther, and I'm thrilled to see another Mountaineer playing at the highest French professional division," Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "This contract is a huge accomplishment for Easther and speaks highly of her hard work and commitment to the sport. At WVU, she dedicated herself to becoming a professional player, and now she will live her goal."
A native of Quebec City, Quebec, Mayi Kith graduated from WVU last month. A starter at center back in 89 career matches, Mayi Kith ranks No. 4 in career starts and No. 5 in matches played (93). A two-time All-Big 12 honoree, she was named to the first team in 2018 and earned the Most Outstanding Defensive Player honor at the 2018 Big 12 Soccer Championship. She capped her season with United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region First Team accolades.
Mayi Kith helped WVU post 12 shutouts in 2018 and claim the conference's championship crown. The Mountaineers (15-4-4, 7-2) made their 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Also a standout in the classroom, Mayi Kith was named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-America Third Team. She was a candidate for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award and a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree.
