MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –
The West Virginia University wrestling team welcomes No. 16 Iowa State to Morgantown on Sunday in a 1 p.m. dual at the WVU Coliseum.
"I'm not worried about only having a day off in-between matches," said first-year coach
Tim Flynn. "At the NCAA Tournament, you have to make weight three days in a row, and you have to wrestle a better guy every round, so having a day off in-between is nothing. Iowa State is ranked pretty high, but I'm looking forward to Sunday. I think it'll be a good match."
Sunday's match will be streamed live for free on
WVUsports.com/Watch and the
WVU Gameday App. Fans also can watch the stream live via
Roku and
Apple TV by searching for the "West Virginia Mountaineers" channel. Tony Onorato and Michael Minnich will have the call.
Additionally, the match will be broadcasted live on
FloWrestling.com. Live stats will be available for the match through
TrackWrestling.com. Direct links to the video stream and live stats can be found on the wrestling schedule page on

Sunday also marks the Mountaineers' annual Cradles for Cancer match for breast cancer awareness. WVU Medicine will sponsor the match and will collect donations for the WVU Cancer Institute. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and can get the WVU sports official "pink" t-shirt with a donation of $10 or more to WVU Medicine. Autographs also will take place following the match.
Fans can purchase tickets by visiting

Sunday's match is the 20th all-time meeting between the Mountaineers (2-10, 2-3 Big 12) and the Cyclones (5-1, 2-0 Big 12). Though not the most prolific, it is one of the longest-running series in WVU program history, with both teams going head-to-head for the first time in 1922. ISU leads the all-time series, 17-2, with both programs joining the Big 12 Conference in the summer of 2012.
Last season, West Virginia dropped a heartbreaking match to Iowa State, 25-17, at the Hilton Coliseum, in Ames, Iowa, on Jan. 21.
Of note, the Mountaineers earned their first-ever Big 12 win against the Cyclones in 2017, as now-junior heavyweight
Brandon Ngati pinned Joe Scanlan in the final bout of the day to claim a thrilling comeback win over ISU, 22-20, on Feb. 12, inside the WVU Coliseum. The 2017 victory marked WVU's first win over Iowa State in 14 years.
West Virginia is coming off a tough loss to No. 3 Oklahoma State on Friday, dropping a 40-3 contest to the Cowboys at the WVU Coliseum. Sophomore
Nick Kiussis, who is ranked at No. 20 via Intermat, picked up the Mountaineers lone victory of the evening, claiming a 6-4 decision in sudden victory over No. 19 Andrew Shomers at 165 pounds. With the win, Kiussis topped his third ranked opponent of the season to move to 15-5 on the year.
Redshirt senior
Christian Monserrat's win streak in dual action came to an end on Friday, as he dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision to No. 5 Kaden Gfeller at 149 pounds. Despite the loss, Monserrat continues to lead the team with 38 match points and 20 takedowns on the year.
ISU is fresh off a 29-17 victory at Rider on Thursday night. In the dual, five of the Cyclones seven wins came by bonus-point margin.
Individually, Iowa State has five wrestlers nationally ranked by Intermat in Sunday's probable lineup. 197-pounder Willie Miklus is the squad's highest-ranked Cyclone at No. 6, followed by 133-pounder Austin Gomez at No. 7. Of note, Gomez leads the team in nearfall points having already scored 26 on the season.
WVU will hit the road for the next three matches to close out the month of January. The team will start the road swing in Orem, Utah, as WVU faces CSU Bakersfield in a neutral-site matchup on Jan. 25, at 5 p.m., followed by a dual against Big 12 affiliate Utah Valley at 9 p.m.
The Roadrunners own a 2-0 lead in the all-time series, with the last meeting taking place in 2017. West Virginia met Utah Valley for the first time in program history last season, as the Wolverines walked away with the 24-9 neutral-site victory.
From there, the Mountaineers will trek to Laramie, Wyoming, to square off with Wyoming, the squad's second Big 12 match of the weekend, on Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. Wyoming holds a 1-0 all-time series advantage, though the squads have not faced each other head-to-head since 2009.
