Veteran defensive coordinator Tony Gibson has called junior linebacker David Long Jr. the "most impactful" defensive player he's ever coached.
After overcoming off-season shoulder surgery last year, Long Jr. went on to earn first team ESPN.com All-Big 12 honors as West Virginia's Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.
This season, David has picked right up where he left off with a team-leading 31 tackles, 5 ½ tackles for losses and a couple of sacks through the first three games for the 12th-rated Mountaineers.
