MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second time this month, senior center back
Easther Mayi Kith of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of Quebec City, Quebec, Mayi Kith's honor is her fourth career award and the third for a Mountaineer defender this season.
A 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 Team honoree and a member of the 2017 All-Big 12 Second Team, Mayi Kith anchored a Mountaineer defense which limited two ranked foes to a combined one shot on-goal over the weekend. WVU (6-2-3) opened Big 12 play with a 2-0 win at No. 22 Texas Tech on Sept. 21 before tallying a 2-0 victory at No. 21 TCU on Sept. 23. The Horned Frogs were the first opponent to register a shot on-goal since a 2-1 Mountaineer win at Clemson on Sept. 7.
Currently ride a five-match win streak, its first since the 2016 season, WVU's last four victories have been clean sheets, pushing the team's season shutout total to six. The Mountaineers rank No. 21 nationally with a 0.514 goals-against average.
Oklahoma State's Marlo Zoller was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, and Mackenzie McFarland of Texas was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.
The Mountaineers open a three-match homestand at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this Friday, Sept. 28, with a 7 p.m. contest against Kansas State.
