MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior outside back Bianca St. Georges of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
St. Georges is the second Mountaineer in as many weeks to claim the honor, as classmate Easther Mayi Kith was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4.
A native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, today's honor is St. Georges' third career award. A 2017 All-Big 12 First Team honoree and the 2015 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, she was named to the 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.
St. Georges anchored a WVU defense which held Clemson to just seven shots, two on-goal, in a 2-1 win on Sept. 7, at Riggs Field in Clemson, South Carolina. The Tigers, who were denied a shot through the first 33 minutes of the match, did not earn a corner kick, the first opponent this season WVU has denied.
The Mountaineers (2-2-3) return to Morgantown next week for their final pair of nonconference matches at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. WVU opens against Boston University on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. It's a Gold Rush, and the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a gold shaker and a foam finger. Additionally, it's WVU Faculty/Staff night, and free admission will be given to all WVU faculty and staff members who show their WVU employee ID.
WVU faces Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. It's Youth Soccer Day, and fans who wear a youth soccer jersey will earn free admittance. A free postgame clinic for children ages 13 and under will follow the match. Additionally, the first 250 fans in attendance will receive a WVU jersey koozie.
Tickets for both matches are available now at WVUGAME.com.
