Mountaineers Rank as High as No. 18

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team ranks as high as No. 18 in this week's national rankings.
The Mountaineers (0-1-1) sit at No. 18 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Division I Top 25 and the Soccer America Women's College Top 25. WVU dropped from No. 9 to No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's National Poll.
WVU has ranked inside the top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches/NSCAA regular-season polls each week since Sept. 3, 2013.
Stanford (1-0) and UCLA (1-0) rank No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in all three polls.
Penn State (2-0) moved up one spot to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, while North Carolina (2-0) ranks No. 4 and Florida (2-0) ranks No. 5. Florida State (2-0) and Virginia (2-0) rank No. 6 and No. 7, respectively, and USC (1-0) sits at No. 8. Texas A&M (2-0) and South Carolina (2-0) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers continue their season-opening road trip at the Boilermaker Challenge Cup this weekend in West Lafayette, Indiana. WVU kicks against host Purdue (1-0) on Friday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m., at Folk Field. The Mountaineers will then meet No. 19-ranked Northwestern (2-0) on Sunday, Aug. 26, at noon.
