
WVU Visits Wake Forest for Preseason Tilt

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team travels to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to take on Wake Forest in an exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 11.
The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m. ET, at Spry Stadium.
The Mountaineers enter the preseason matchup ranked No. 9 nationally in the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Preseason Ranking, the team's third consecutive season slotted in the preseason top 10.
A total of 16 letterwinners, including six starters, return to the Mountaineers this season. Led by nine seniors, the squad is coming off a 16-win campaign in 2017 and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Third Round. WVU has advanced to the tournament's "Sweet 16" for three consecutive seasons and six times in program history.
Earlier this week, four Mountaineers were named to the 2018 All-Big 12 Preseason Soccer Team. Senior defenders Bianca St. Georges and Easther Mayi Kith, senior forward Sh'Nia Gordon and junior goalkeeper Rylee Foster represented WVU on the team. For the sixth consecutive season, WVU also was picked to finish No. 1 in the 2018 Big 12 Preseason Soccer Poll.
Additionally, St. Georges and Foster were named to the 2018 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, college soccer's most prestigious award, which is presented each year to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.
The Demon Deacons, who are led by 22nd-year head coach Tony da Luz, are coming off an 11-6-4 campaign last fall. Wake Forest reached the NCAA Tournament Second Round a year ago, falling, 2-0, to eventual quarterfinalist Penn State at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown.
WVU opens the 2018 regular season at No. 4 Penn State on Friday, Aug. 17, with first kick at Jeffrey Field set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
