WVU Travels to Virginia Tech for Preseason Opener
August 10, 2018 03:19 PM | Men's Soccer
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's soccer team begins preseason competition with an exhibition match at Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon.
Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET, at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Virginia.
"Preseason practice has been good," 13th-year coach Marlon LeBlanc said. "We're fortunate that we have quite a large number of guys coming back from last year's team, so we really were able to jump into things pretty quickly. Legs are heavy as expected, it's been hot the last few days, but it's been productive. I'm pleased with where we're at right now."
Saturday's contest is the first of three exhibition matches for the Mountaineers, who commenced preseason practice on Tuesday.
Following Saturday's contest against the Hokies, the preseason schedule concludes with two home matches. The annual Gold/Blue Intrasquad is set for Monday, Aug. 13, while WVU hosts Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m. Both home games will be held at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, and admission is free for all fans.
The regular season begins on Aug. 24, at the College of Charleston, while the home opener is set for Friday, Aug. 31, against American.
WVU's 18-match 2018 schedule is highlighted by home matchups against Pitt and Cincinnati, as well as MAC foes SIU Edwardsville and Bowling Green, while the road slate features contests at perennial national-championship contenders Akron and Maryland. The complete schedule can be found on WVUsports.com.
