West Virginia coach Nikki Izzo-Brown discusses her team on the eve of preseason practice beginning early Wednesday morning. The Mountaineers return six starters and 16 letterwinners from last year's team that won 16 matches, qualified for their 18thconsecutive NCAA Tournament and once again finished the season ranked in the top 10.
West Virginia faces another challenging schedule featuring 14 Power 5 opponents, beginning with an early-season stretch that includes matches against Penn State, Arkansas, Purdue and Northwestern before traveling to Clemson to play the Tigers on Sept. 7.
The home opener is Thursday, Aug. 30, against Xavier at Dick Dlesk Stadium. Regional rival Georgetown will be in Morgantown two days later on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
WVU opens Big 12 play on the road at Texas Tech on Friday, Sept. 21.
The Mountaineers under Izzo-Brown have claimed eight Big 12 regular season and tournament championships and 16 league titles overall.
