MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising senior Vanessa Flores of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been called into a training camp with the Mexican Women's National Team.
Held at the Mexican Football Federation High Performance Center in Mexico City, the camp opens today and will run through June 12.
A center back for the Mountaineers, Flores most recently was named to the Mexican Women's National Team in April for a pair of friendlies against the United States. The Baytown, Texas, native has been training with the full national team since July 2017. She previously played for the Mexican U-20 and U-17 Women's National Teams and participated at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
Flores, a member of the 2017 All-Big 12 Second Team, started all 23 matches last season and helped the Mountaineers post 13 shutouts. She finished the year with three points (1 G, 1 A).
Also a standout in the classroom, Flores is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-South Region Team. She also has been named to the President's and Dean's Lists.
