MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team opens its spring home slate at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Saturday, April 7, against Duquesne at 1 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Nearly a month has passed since the Mountaineers' spring opener, a 1-0 loss to Sky Blue FC on March 10, at Sportika Sports in Manalapan, New Jersey.
"The team has worked hard over the last few weeks," associate head coach Marisa Kanela said. "Against Sky Blue FC, we saw areas we could improve upon and we focused on those areas in training. We're excited to get into a game setting and see the final product come together. Saturday will be another great opportunity to build toward our future matches."
In their last meeting, the Mountaineers defeated the Dukes, 3-0, on Aug. 27, 2017, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Junior forward Hannah Abraham netted the game-winner in the 10th minute, and junior defender Bianca St. Georges added the second insurance goal in the 66th minute. Carla Portillo also tallied an insurance score, and sophomore Rylee Foster made one save.
In March, Foster made five saves against Sky Blue FC, including three first-half stops. The Mountaineer attack placed three shots on-goal.
