Staley Receives Nickolich Award

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University kicker Evan Staley, a redshirt sophomore from Romney, West Virginia, is the winner of the 2018 Tom Nickolich Memorial Award, presented by the Blue and Gold News.
Staley, a Hampshire High graduate, is in his third year as a member of the football team and played in all 13 games last season. The Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection connected on 6-of-7 field goal attempts, including a long of 36 yards. He hit a season-high two field goals against Iowa State and Utah. He finished with 77 kickoffs and averaged 58.9 yards per kick. He averaged more than 60 yards in kickoffs in eight games and had 27 touchbacks, including a season-high five at Kansas. Staley had a season-high eight points against Iowa State
Staley is an exercise physiology major, who has earned Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades.
At the conclusion of spring drills each year, the Blue and Gold News awards the Tom Nickolich Memorial Award to a walk-on team member who has distinguished himself through his attitude and work ethic. The award is presented in memory of Tom Nickolich, a former WVU player (1979-82) who died of cancer in 1983.
