MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is proud to present the first-ever Mountaineer Fan Fest, set to coincide with the gymnastics and wrestling teams' Beauty and the Beast Match on Sunday, Feb. 18, inside the WVU Coliseum.
The Coliseum Gold Gate will open at 12:30 p.m. The gymnastics and wrestling competitions will begin at 2 p.m.
The Mountaineer Fan Fest brings together many of the WVU teams and student-athletes in one place for a fun afternoon of games and activities. Upon entrance, fans are encouraged to pick up their passport for the day and visit each of the team stations, including a selfie station with the WVU football team, featuring quarterback Will Grier, safety Dravon Askew-Henry and linebacker David Long Jr.
A complete listing of team activities is below.
"I am really excited about the first Mountaineer Fan Fest," gymnastics coach Jason Butts said. "I think this is an excellent family event that pairs well with our Beauty and the Beast meet. It's great to see the whole athletic department support each other and to come together to present a fun day for our great fans."
"I'm excited. We were eager to bring back Beauty and the Beast this year, and having the first-ever Mountaineer Fan Fest on top of that is an added bonus," wrestling coach Sammie Henson said. "This event allows Mountaineer Nation to come together as one and show its support. I think our fans will really enjoy what we have in store for them."
Fans will get a stamp for their passports at each station. Completed passports may be turned into the WVU athletic marketing staff at the Gold Gate, and participants will be eligible for one of five grand prizes: two tickets to the men's basketball team's game against Texas Tech on Feb. 26 at 9 p.m., two baseball season tickets, a basketball signed by coach Bob Huggins, a 2017 football poster signed by coach Dana Holgorsen and a WVU swag bag filled with Mountaineer gear. The winners will be announced during the gymnastics/wrestling competition, and fans must be present to win.
The first 800 fans through the gate will receive a free Beauty and the Beast t-shirt courtesy of United Bank and the Mountaineer Maniacs. Additionally, Mr. Twister will provide balloon art and face painting.
The Mountaineer gymnastics and wrestling teams will begin competition simultaneously at 2 p.m. The gymnasts will face Maryland and Pitt, while the wrestlers will grapple with Clarion. The competition is the home season finale for both squads, and a Senior Day celebration, as well as a fan meet-and-greet on the Coliseum concourse, will cap the day's events.
One ticket gains fans admittance into Mountaineer Fan Fest and the Beauty and the Beast competition. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youths and senior citizens and $2 for groups of 10 or more. WVU students are admitted free with a valid WVU Student I.D. Tickets are on sale now at WVUGAME.com and also will be available for purchase at the WVU Coliseum Gold Gate Ticket Office on Feb. 18.
To provide a safer environment for Mountaineer fans and to expedite entry into all ticketed WVU athletic events, the West Virginia Department of Intercollegiate Athletics enforces the NFL's Clear Bag Policy. The athletic department invites and encourages fans to visit WVUsports.com/clearbag for more information, to view pictures of permissible and non-permissible items and to obtain answers to frequently asked questions about the clear bag policy.
