MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women's soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown announced today the Mountaineers' 2018 spring schedule.
WVU will face five opponents, including three at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown. The Mountaineers will conclude the spring with an intrasquad. All home matches are free and open to the public.
The Mountaineers open their spring season at National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) member Sky Blue FC on Saturday, March 10, at 1 p.m. In January, Sky Blue FC selected Mountaineers Michaela Abam and Amandine Pierre-Louis with the No. 4 and No. 6 overall picks at the NWSL College Draft.
Following a month-long break, WVU will return to action against Duquesne on Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers will then play host to Pitt on Friday, April 13, at 7 p.m.
WVU kicks at Virginia on Sunday, April 15, at noon, before returning to Morgantown for a match against Tennessee on Saturday, April 21, also at noon. The team wraps-up its spring slate with an intrasquad match on Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m.
WVU officially opens its spring season on Saturday, March 3, with its annual 4-versus-4 tournament "Three's a Team…the Fourth's a Mountaineer" event. The tournament will take place inside the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility, located next to Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium.
The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. There also will be an open division for college age students and adults. Teams can be male, female or co-ed. Due to NCAA regulations, no individuals in high school may participate.
Each team of three players will be paired with a WVU women's soccer student-athlete or Mountaineer coach. There is a $75 entry fee, and all proceeds benefit Morgantown's Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.
Registration for the tournament closes Feb. 21. Fans can download a registration form at WVUsports.com/camps.
The Mountaineers raised more than $8,000 in donations for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center last year. The program has raised more than $130,000 for the center over the last decade.
