Mountaineer Duo Remains in National Rankings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University wrestlers Zeke Moisey and Jacob A. Smith remain in the national rankings, as announced by FloWrestling, Intermat and The Open Mat on Tuesday.
A native of Northampton, Pennsylvania, Moisey checks-in at No. 14 in both The Open Mat and Intermat's 125-pound rankings. He also comes in at No. 15 in FloWrestling's Top-20 Poll. The redshirt junior earned his team-leading 19th win of the year on Feb. 11, topping No. 19 Connor Brown of South Dakota State in an 8-3 decision. Moisey boasts a 6-2 record in league action and has won eight of his last nine duals. He also paces the Mountaineers with 35 match points and 25 takedowns.
Smith, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, appears in Intermat's Top-20 Poll at No. 18 in his weight class of 197 pounds. The redshirt senior holds a 9-6 overall mark on the year as well as a 5-4 record in dual matches this season.
The Mountaineers (5-6, 4-4 Big 12) will cap their regular season slate with a pair of non-conference duals this week. First up, West Virginia travels to Edinboro, Pennsylvania, for a match against Edinboro on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers then return home three days later for the always popular Beauty and the Beast Meet, set to start at 2 p.m. The squad will compete against Clarion, as the Mountaineer gymnastic team squares off against Pitt and Maryland. It is the home season finale for both programs, and the senior wrestlers (Parker VonEgidy and Smith) and gymnasts will be honored following the competition.
The Mountaineer Fan Festival also will be held Sunday prior to the start of competition. The Coliseum Gold Gate will open at 12:30 p.m., one ticket will grant fans admittance into both events. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youths and senior citizens and $2 for groups of 10 or more. WVU students are admitted free with a valid WVU Student I.D. Tickets are on sale now at WVUGAME.com and will be available for purchase at the Coliseum Ticket Office on Feb. 18.
