Mountaineers Return to Top 10

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the first time this season, the West Virginia University women's soccer team is nationally ranked in the top 10, as the Mountaineers move up six spots to No. 8 in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's National Poll.
WVU last resided in the top 10 at the onset of the regular-season slate, as the Mountaineers checked-in at No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. Prior to this year, WVU had been ranked within the top 10 of the coaches poll each week since the third week of the 2015 season.
The Mountaineers' (14-4-3, 7-2) move follows their run through the 2018 Big 12 Soccer Championship. WVU claimed its fourth tournament title and ninth Big 12 crown with a 3-0 win over then-No. 9 Baylor on Nov. 4.
WVU is 5-3-1 against ranked teams this season.
Defending National Champion Stanford (17-0-2) ranks No. 1, and Georgetown (17-0-3) sits at No. 2. North Carolina (17-3-1) and UCLA (14-3-1) follow at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, and Florida State (15-4-2) ranks No. 5.
USC (15-2-2) ranks No. 6, and Santa Clara (16-3-1) sits at No. 7. Duke (14-3-2) follows WVU at No. 9, and Tennessee (13-2-3) ranks No. 10.
The Mountaineers also rank No. 8 in the Soccer America Women's College Top 25 and No. 15 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Division I Top 25.
WVU is a No. 2 seed in the Tallahassee Region for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Including the Mountaineers, WVU's quarter of the bracket features seven ranked teams: No. 5 FSU, No. 6 USC, No. 14 Penn State, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 19 LSU and No. 20 USF.
The Mountaineers open the 2018 NCAA Tournament against Radford on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Tickets are on sale now at WVUGAME.com. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and youth 12 and under and $3 for groups of 10 or more. WVU students will be admitted for free with a valid WVU Student I.D.
