MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University defender Bianca St. Georges has been named to the 2018 Senior CLASS Award All-America First Team for NCAA Division I women's soccer.
A native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, St. Georges is the sixth Mountaineer in five seasons to collect a Senior CLASS All-America honor and the first since Kadeisha Buchanan (2016) to land on the first team.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Ole Miss forward/midfielder CeCe Kizer was named the 2018 Senior CLASS Award winner.
Named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region First Team earlier this week, St. Georges was the 2018 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Not only did she help the WVU backline post 12 clean sheets, but she also finished the season ranked No. 2 on the team with seven goals and 14 points, both single season career-best showings. St. Georges tallied a pair of braces in wins over No. 13 Texas and Oklahoma, and her five goals against Big 12 opponents ranked No. 2 in the conference, while her 10 points ranked No. 3. She finished the 2018 season a perfect five-for-five from the penalty line, the best mark nationally.
A two-time All-Big 12 First Team honoree, she also was a candidate for the 2018 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy.
St. Georges shows a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 in exercise physiology. She is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and was named to the first team in 2017. St. Georges also was named to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Second Team. A three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and a 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team member, she also is a President's List honoree and a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
Throughout her four years at WVU, St. Georges has made visits to the WVU Medicine Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House with her teammates. She has also assisted with the program's efforts to raise money for breast cancer research and volunteered at WVU women's soccer team camps and clinics.
The award, chosen by a vote of Division I women's soccer coaches, national soccer media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I women's soccer.
The Senior CLASS Award was inspired by Duke men's basketball player Shane Battier and his decision to forego the NBA to remain in school all four years. Established in 2001, the award is presented in 10 NCAA sports and focuses on the total student-athlete, encouraging students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
