Mountaineers Lead at Halftime

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Leddie Brown has scored twice, one of those coming on a touchdown pass from Will Grier, but Grier's three red zone interceptions have kept the Jayhawks in today's game.
West Virginia is leading Kansas 21-7 at halftime, but the Mountaineers have left 21 points on the field because of red zone miscues. The aptly named Hasan Defense has come up with two of those picks and Davon Ferguson got the other one right before the end of the first half when WVU had a first and goal at the KU 1.
Grier's last two interceptions were as much the result of the offensive line's inability to control the line of scrimmage as it was Grier forcing passes into tight windows.
If not for those three bad plays, West Virginia would have complete control of this one. The Mountaineers are outgaining Kansas 345 to 78 despite the Jayhawks emptying all of their bag of tricks.
We've seen double passes, fake punts, gambling on fourth down on Kansas' side of the field … you name it.
KU's lone score came late in the first quarter when backup quarterback Peyton Bender hit Mavin Saunders for an 18-yard touchdown.
Brown's two touchdowns came on a 15-yard pass from Grier and a 1-yard run. WVU's other score was a 14-yard Grier-to-Jovani Haskins pass in the second quarter.
Kansas will get the football to begin the second half.
