All Mountaineers in the First Half

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia's offense was non-existent 12 days ago at Iowa State.
Well, the Mountaineers rediscovered it in the first half tonight in Morgantown.
Will Grier fired three touchdown passes, two going to his old standby David Sills and the other to Gary Jennings Jr. on the third play of the game, and the run game came alive in the second quarter as West Virginia has built a commanding 41-0 lead.
Grier completed 15 of 22 for 302 yards, four going to Sills V for 141 yards, and six different ball carriers have accounted for 133 yards on 18 carries in a 435-yard first half.
But as good as the offense has been, the real story of the first half has been Tony Gibson's defense, which completely smothered a Baylor offense which came into tonight's game averaging 33.1 points and 475 yards per game.
Sophomore quarterback Charlie Brewer bore the brunt of it, completing just 1 of his 8 pass attempts for 22 yards with three interceptions before taking himself out of the game late in the second quarter.
Backup Jalan McClendon completed 3 of 5 passes for 9 yards and ran three times for 18 yards, leading the Bears to two of their five first downs for the first half.
Baylor got 56 yards on the ground and 31 through the air for 87 total yards.
West Virginia will kick off to begin the second half.
More details to come.
