AMES, Iowa – The No. 18-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team returns to the road for a match at Iowa State on Friday, Oct. 12, with kick at the Cyclone Sports Complex set for 8 p.m. EST.

Winners in seven of their last eight matches, the Mountaineers (8-3-3, 4-1) have posted five shutouts in that span and outscored their opponents, 18-3. WVU is 2-0 on the road in Big 12 Conference play this season.
 
The Mountaineers are 6-0 all-time against the Cyclones (2-11-2, 0-4-1). WVU has denied ISU a goal in five consecutive matches and outscored ISU, 18-2, in their six previous meetings.
 
"It's going to be a tough game," Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "Their venue is always tough to play in. Obviously, the weather is going to be a bit different than we're used to, too. We understand all of this. Their record does not dictate who they are as a team. They are doing great things; they've just fallen short of getting results."
 
In their last meeting, then-No. 7 WVU raced to a 4-0 win over Iowa State on Oct. 12, 2017, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Alli Magaletta tallied the game-winner just 6:15 into the match, and Michaela Abam, Heather Kaleiohi and Lauren Segalla added second-half insurance goals. WVU finished with a 25-6 edge in shots and denied ISU a shot on-goal.
 
The last time in Ames, No. 2 WVU earned a 2-0 win at the Cyclone Sports Complex on Oct. 9, 2016, with Carla Portillo and Kadeisha Buchanan tallying first-half goals. Rylee Foster made two saves for the shutout, and the Mountaineer backline denied ISU a corner kick.
 
The Mountaineers went 1-1 in Morgantown last weekend, falling 1-0 (OT) to No. 24 Baylor on Oct. 5 before earning a 2-1, comeback victory over No. 13 Texas on Oct. 7. Senior defender Bianca St. Georges scored both second-half goals against the Longhorns, and her first career brace and game-winning goal helped her win Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors. Defender Jordan Brewster was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, as she combined with St. Georges and the WVU backline to hold UT to just one shot on-goal.
 
WVU ranks No. 2 in the Big 12, No. 22 nationally, with a 0.54 goals-against average (GAA). The Mountaineers have allowed just five opponent shots on-goal in five Big 12 matches this season.
 
Foster ranks No. 3 in the Big 12, No. 25 in the nation, with a 0.56 GAA.
 
The WVU attack has scored two or more goals on four of five Big 12 opponents this season. The Mountaineers rank No. 5 in the Big 12 with a 4.57 points/game average.
 
Sophomore midfielder Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel continues to pace WVU with 11 points (5 G, 1 A) and ranks No. 9 in the conference with a 0.36 goals/game average.
 
Since opening Big 12 play with a 2-2 (2OT) draw at No. 21 TCU on Sept. 21, ISU has lost four straight, including three to ranked opponents. Most recently, ISU dropped a 2-1 (2OT) loss to No. 24 Baylor on Oct. 7 at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Courtney Powell put ISU on the board first in the 48th minute, but BU answered in the 69th minute before finding the golden goal in the 104th minute.
 
ISU is getting outscored, 26-14, in 2018. Sophomore Dayja Schwichtenberg has played all 15 matches between the posts and shows a 1.64 GAA. She has made 83 saves and posted two clean sheets.
 
Senior midfielder Emily Steil paces ISU with nine points (2 G, 5 A). Powell has scored a team-best three goals.
