MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Charlotte Touchdown Club has announced that West Virginia University football coach Dana Holgorsen will kick off its 2018 Luncheon Speakers Series at the Sheraton Charlotte Hotel at noon on May 25 as announced today by the organization.
"It's an honor to come to Charlotte in May and speak to the Charlotte Touchdown Club, one of the largest, most passionate and knowledgeable football groups of its kind," Holgorsen said. "The list of elite coaches who have been here in the past are a who's
who in our profession and I am looking forward to being part of this event.
An estimated sell-out crowd of more than 750 people is anticipated at the event, being held at the hotel's grand ballroom. There will be a silent auction from 11:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. and then the program will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Touchdown Club scholarship fund.
"Charlotte is an outstanding football city, and North Carolina is an important state to our recruiting efforts," Holgorsen added. "As everyone knows, we are looking forward to opening the season in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium, and we are excited to have Davidson's Will Grier back at WVU to lead our program in the coming year."
Holgorsen, who passed the 50-win mark during the 2017 season, has led the Mountaineer football program since 2011 its last year as a Big East Conference member, and now into the seventh year of Big 12 Conference membership.
He is currently No. 4 on the school's all-time win list, and he has led the Mountaineers to bowl games in six of the past seven years, including four straight. West Virginia has been ranked in both major polls at least one time in six of his seven years.
He has had numerous players earn all-conference, All-America honors and be drafted by the NFL, including four first round picks in the past six years at WVU. Since 2012, he has had the most top three round draft picks in the Big 12 (10) and has had the third-most players drafted in the league (19).
In 2017, he led the Mountaineers to a 7-6 record and 5-4 in the Big 12 Conference. WVU participated in its fourth-straight bowl game and sixth in the seven years under Holgorsen's direction.
