
Leadoff Dinner One Week Away, Auction Begins

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Bidding is now open for silent auction items in conjunction with the West Virginia University baseball team's annual Leadoff Dinner, and tickets and tables for the event on Friday, Feb. 2, are still available.
Tickets and table sponsorships for the sixth annual WVU Baseball Leadoff Dinner, presented by Lumos Networks, are available until Wednesday, Jan. 31. To reserve your table or tickets, register online at WVUMAC.com/Events or call 304-293-2294.
Bidding is now open for more than 100 silent auction items. Text WVU to 71760 to view the auction items and start bidding from your mobile device. Fans can participate in the auction online, even if they are not attending the Leadoff Dinner. Bidding will conclude during the banquet on Saturday evening.
All proceeds from the dinner and auction support the WVU baseball team.
The event celebrates the start of the 2018 baseball season. It will feature a pair of special guests, guest speaker Domingo Ayala and emcee Pittsburgh Dad. Coach Randy Mazey and Director of Athletics Shane Lyons also will speak, and the 2018 Mountaineers will be introduced.
Registration and reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET, while the VIP reception with Domingo Ayala and Pittsburgh Dad will begin at 6:30 p.m. The dinner and program commences at 7:30 p.m.
The silent auction features more than 100 items, including a trip to Jacksonville with the team for the 2018 season-opening weekend, dinner with the entire WVU coaching staff and exclusive experiences, gameday opportunities and signed items from numerous WVU teams, including baseball, football, men's basketball, golf, volleyball and rifle.
Additional auction items also include one-of-a-kind WVU items perfect for any Mountaineer fan, gourmet dinner party and restaurant experiences, autographed WVU baseball jerseys, helmets, bats and Pirates, Steelers, Penguins and MLB memorabilia. The opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a game, watch batting practice from the dugout and be a fire fighter for the day also are among the auction items.

Domingo Ayala will serve as guest speaker of the 2018 Leadoff Dinner. The "self-proclaimed best baseball player in the world," Ayala's baseball-based comedy represents everything that is great about the game. Through his act, he "reminds us that baseball, no matter how caught up in it we may become, is still just a game."
The Leadoff Dinner will be emceed by Curt Wootton, better known as Pittsburgh Dad. A WVU alum, Wootton became an internet sensation with videos that capture "the funny phrases, nostalgia and frustrations of growing up with a blue collar 'everyman' father."
