Duo Remains in National Rankings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University wrestlers Zeke Moisey and Jacob A. Smith remain in the national rankings, as announced by FloWrestling, Intermat and The Open Mat on Tuesday.
A native of Northampton, Pennsylvania, Moisey appears at No. 13 via The Open Mat after going 1-1 in Big 12 action last week. He also is ranked No. 15 by Intermat and checks in at No. 16 via FloWrestling.
The 125-pound redshirt junior dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 7 Nick Piccininni of Oklahoma State on Friday, but quickly rebounded two days later, claiming his second tech. fall victory of the season over Iowa State's Sinjin Briggs. Moisey notched a trio of takedowns to go along with eight nearfall points in the first period to take a 14-2 lead. It didn't take long for Moisey to tack on four more nearfall points in the second, eventually earning the tech. fall in 5 minutes, 13 seconds.
Of note, Moisey is tied for the team lead with 16 wins. He also paces the Mountaineers with 24 match points and sports a team-best 19 takedowns on the year.
Additionally, Smith, a redshirt senior from Charleston, West Virginia, checks in to Intermat's Top-20 Poll at No. 18 in his respective weight class. Smith dropped a pair of Big 12 matches at 197 pounds last week, suffering a 5-2 decision to No. 3 Preston Weigel of Oklahoma State as well as a 6-5 decision in sudden victory to Iowa State's Sam Colbray.
Looking ahead, the Mountaineers will take a week off from competition before they travel to Colorado for a pair of Big 12 matches at Air Force and Northern Colorado on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3, respectively.
