Mountaineers Comfortably Ahead at Halftime
September 23, 2017 01:38 PM | Football
West Virginia used four long scoring drives and a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown to take a commanding 35-13 halftime lead over Kansas today at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas.
After spotting the Jayhawks three early points, West Virginia used scoring marches of 80, 80, 86 and 85 yards, and then got a Mike Daniels 25-yard pick six right before halftime to send what little fans here today off to the exits to do some lawn work and enjoy the unseasonably warm temperatures.
Kansas ended the first half with another Gabriel Rui field goal, this one coming from 41 yards on the final play.
Quarterback Will Grier completed 13 of 19 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown, and WVU running backs Justin Crawford and Kennedy McKoy combined to carry the ball 17 times for 147 yards and three touchdowns.
The game's best ball carrier has easily been Kansas' Kahlil Herbert, who has gouged the Mountaineer defense for 191 yards on 19 carries.
