The Mountaineers (4-1-2) return to the Washington, D.C. area for the third time in the last week, after playing at UMBC on Wednesday and at George Mason on Saturday. After a 3-1 loss at UMBC, WVU came back twice to beat George Mason, 3-2 in overtime. Sophomore
Albert Andres-Llop was the hero for West Virginia, scoring the game-tying goal with less than two minutes left in regulation and netting the game-winner in the opening minutes of overtime.
The Eagles (1-5-1) are looking for their first home win of the season, after losing the first two. Last week, AU tied Binghamton, 1-1, and lost at Albany, 3-1.
Several Mountaineers continue to rank among the nation's leaders in numerous statistical categories. Senior
Jad Arslan's three game-winning goals rank No. 3 nationally and No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference. He is also second in the MAC with four goals and fourth with eight total points. Junior
Jorge Quintanilla ranks No. 2 in the MAC and 13th nationally with four assists, while he is also second in the conference with 0.57 assists per game. Andres-Llop is fourth in the conference with three total goals, all coming in the last week.
In goal, junior
Stephen Banick is eighth in the NCAA and second in the league with four shutouts. He also ranks No. 3 in the MAC with a 0.709 goals-against average, an .800 save percentage and 20 saves.
SCOUTING AMERICAN
American enters the week with a 1-5-1 record and an 0-2-1 mark at home. The Eagles' lone win came against Oregon State, 1-0, in Spokane, Washington. AU has been shut out four times and is coming off a 3-1 loss at Albany. Last time out at home, American and Binghamton played to a 1-1 draw.
Todd West is in his 18th season at the helm of the Eagles. He has guided American to three NCAA Tournaments and an NCAA Sweet 16 berth in 2001. With a record of 161-135-47, he has won seven conference titles, including the Patriot League regular-season crown in 2016.
Tim Neumann leads the squad with four points, having scored a team-high-tying one goal and recording the team's lone two assists. Vinny Barone and Max Holdsworth also have scored for the Eagles in 2017. In goal, John Mino has played in seven matches with six starts. He has made 23 saves for a .622 save percentage, and he has allowed 14 goals.
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE EAGLES
West Virginia is 3-1-1 all-time against American, following a 3-0 win last season at home. In Washington, D.C., WVU is 1-1-1. The series began with a 5-1 loss on the road in 1988, followed by a 2-0 win in 2005, also in D.C. In Morgantown in 2012, the Mountaineers won, 2-0. Back on the road, the two teams played to a scoreless draw in 2013.
Last year, WVU beat American, 3-0 for its sixth consecutive shutout. Junior goalkeeper
Jose Santos earned the shutout, making a career-high seven saves. American had 17 shots. WVU's offense had 10 shots, seven on goal.
Felix Angerer gave the Mountaineers an early 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the match. A minute into the second half,
Rushawn Larmond netted his first goal of the year to increase the advantage to 2-0. Just over seven minutes later,
Griffin Libhart scored his first career goal, a highlight-reel play to put West Virginia ahead, 3-0.

The Mountaineers return home to host Dayton on Saturday, Sept. 23, with kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium set for 7 p.m. Tickets are available at

It is Youth Soccer Day, and all youth who wear their youth soccer jersey will receive free admission. Additionally, the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a foam WVU soccer ball. Before the match, members of the men's soccer team and staff will hold a youth clinic.
LAST TIME OUT: COMEBACK OT WIN
Sophomore
Albert Andres-Llop scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead West Virginia to a 3-2 comeback victory at George Mason on Sept. 16.
Andres-Llop tied the game at 2-2 with 99 seconds remaining in the match before scoring the game-winner 97 seconds into overtime. The golden goal came at 91:37 on a free kick into the bottom left corner of the net.
The Mountaineers tied the match twice, in the 18th minute and again in the 89th before winning it in overtime. The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute and regained a 2-1 lead in the 79th minute.

Sebastian Garcia-Herreros earned assists on WVU's second goal. The Mountaineers' first goal came at 17:15, courtesy of sophomore
Pascal Derwaritsch. It was Andres-Llop who earned the assist.
