MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia faces FCS opponent Delaware State tomorrow afternoon at Milan Puskar Stadium in the final non-conference regular season game of the year.
The Hornets are 0-2 following season opening losses to in-state rival Delaware and Hampton. Delaware State will be making its first-ever appearance at Milan Puskar Stadium.
"We respect every opponent we play, I don't care who it is," West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said earlier this week. "There are plenty of things we need to improve on, which is good news."
West Virginia (1-1) earned its first victory of 2017 in impressive fashion last Saturday against East Carolina, the Mountaineers reaching the end zone the first five times they had the ball and eight times overall with the No. 1 offense on the field.
Junior quarterback Will Grier completed 19-of-25 passes for 352 yards and five touchdowns, three of those going to junior wide receiver David Sills V, who finished the afternoon with seven catches for 153 yards. Senior tailback Justin Crawford ran 15 times for 118 yards and scored two touchdowns - his second 100-yard rushing performance of the season and the seventh of his career.
Prior to Saturday's game, the department of intercollegiate athletics will induct its 27th class into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame, headlined by Mountaineer football players Dan Mozes and Willie Drewrey. Mozes won the Rimington Award as college football's top interior lineman and was a consensus All-America choice in 2006, while Drewrey was one of college football's most exciting kick returners in the early 1980s who parlayed his collegiate success into a long and successful NFL career with the Houston Oilers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Others going into the hall of fame this year include men's basketball All-American Kevin Pittsnogle, early 1950s men's basketball standout Eddie Becker, women's soccer All-American Chrissie Abbott, men's swimming star John Havlik, longtime athletic trainer John Spiker and turn-of-the-20th century Major League baseball star Charles "Piano Legs" Hickman.
The hall of fame ceremony will take place in the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility at 9:30 a.m. and the general public is invited to attend free of charge.
Kick off is set for noon and the contest will be televised locally on AT&T Sportsnet (Rob King, Marc Bulger and Meg Bulger).
