MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team ranks No. 6 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Today marks the second time in three weeks the Mountaineers (5-2) have ranked No. 6 in the coaches poll. Preseason ranked No. 1, WVU held the position for one week. The squad ranked No. 3 last week.
UCLA (7-0) and Stanford (6-1) continue to rank No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The Bruins received 28 first-place votes, and the Cardinal earned two. The Mountaineers earned the final first-place vote.
South Carolina (6-1) ranks No. 3 and is followed by Duke (7-1) at No. 4 and Virginia (5-2) at No. 5.
Florida (5-1) follows WVU at No. 7, and Penn State (4-2) ranks No. 8. Wisconsin (6-1) and North Carolina (4-2) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers are one of two Big 12 Conference teams ranked in this week's poll. Oklahoma State (7-0-1) ranks No. 14, and Texas (7-0) sits at No. 21. Kansas is receiving votes.
WVU also ranks No. 7 in this week's Soccer America Women's Top 25 and No. 8 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Division I Top 25 National Rankings.
Princeton, the Mountaineers' next opponent, ranks as high as No. 14 in the Soccer America Poll. The Tigers (6-0) also rank No. 17 in the TDS.com National Rankings and No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Unranked last week, Princeton becomes WVU's fifth ranked opponent of the season.
WVU kicks against the Tigers on Friday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m., at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey. The match will be broadcast on ESPNU.
