Grier Named Newcomer of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second straight week, WVU junior quarterback Will Grier has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
Grier led the Mountaineers to a 56-20 victory over East Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Milan Puskar Stadium. He completed 19-of-25 passes for 352 yards and five touchdowns in 2 ½ quarters of action.
He becomes the seventh quarterback in West Virginia history to throw for at least five touchdowns in a game. Skyler Howard and Geno Smith each accomplished the feat on three occasions.
Grier ranks first in the Big 12 in passing touchdowns (8), passing yards (723) and total offense per game (390.5).
In the awards first year of existence in 2016, Justin Crawford picked up the honor three times, while Martell Pettaway was honored once.
West Virginia returns to action at Milan Puskar Stadium this Saturday against Delaware State at noon. The game will be televised on AT&T SportsNet.
