Mountaineers Begin Season No. 22 in AP Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia begins the season ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll, released this afternoon.
It is the third time under coach Dana Holgorsen that West Virginia is starting the season ranked in the writers' poll, the other instances coming in 2011 and 2012.
It is also the 17th time AP has ranked West Virginia in its preseason dating back to the Mountaineers' first-ever preseason appearance in 1953.
West Virginia is one of five Big 12 teams ranked in the preseason AP poll. The others are Oklahoma (seventh), Oklahoma State (10th), Kansas State (20th) and Texas (23rd).
Season-opening foe Virginia Tech begins the year ranked 21st.
West Virginia continues preseason work in preparation for its season-opening matchup against the Hokies at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, on Sunday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on ABC.
Tickets for the 2017 campaign remain on sale through the Mountaineer Ticket Office and can be purchased by calling 1-800-WVU GAME or by logging on to WVUGAME.com.
