Football Camp Opens Sunday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Offensive lineman Kelby Wickline tries on his helmet Saturday afternoon on the eve of fall football training camp, set to open at West Virginia University early Sunday evening.
The Mountaineers, coming off a 10-3 season and an appearance in the 2016 Russell Athletic Bowl, have 15 lettermen returning on offense, which will be led this season by Florida quarterback transfer Will Grier, while the WVU defense will have 16 players with prior playing experience returning, including eight with at least some starting experience.
Jake Spavital, back in Morgantown following assistant coaching stints at Texas A&M and California, will handle the Mountaineer offense this year while Tony Gibson will be directing the WVU defensive efforts for his fourth season now.
Coach Dana Holgorsen, who last year signed a five-year contract extension, will be overseeing the entire operation for the seventh consecutive year, the veteran coach now showing a 46-31 overall record with five bowl appearances and a pair of Top 25 finishes to his credit so far at WVU.

The Mountaineers open the season on Sunday, Sept. 3, at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, against rival Virginia Tech in a game that will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ABC.
Season and mini-season tickets for the 2017 campaign are on sale through the Mountaineer Ticket Office and can be purchased by calling 1-800-WVU GAME or by logging on to WVUGAME.com.
