WVU Baseball Summer Ball Update – July 28

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two West Virginia University baseball players appeared in All-Star games as 11 Mountaineers continue summer action for their collegiate summer league teams.
Chase Illig was named to the West Coast League All-Star Game and won the league's Home Run Derby, while Brandon White was named a Florida Collegiate Summer League All-Star.
Phillip Ahern (D.C. Greys – Cal Ripken Collegiate League)
Ahern has made six appearances on the mound for the D.C. Greys. On July 12, he pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and striking out five batters. He has pitched 12.1 innings this summer and has six strikeouts.
Kevin Brophy (New Bedford Bay Sox – New England Collegiate Baseball League)
Brophy has appeared in 10 games for the New Bedford Bay Sox. He has six hits, three of them doubles, and has driven in four runs. On July 15, Brophy went 1-for-1 at the plate against the Mystic Schooners.
Nick Denicola (D.C. Greys – Cal Ripken Collegiate League)
In 12 games with the D.C. Greys, Denicola has seven hits, including two home runs and a pair of doubles, while driving in four runs. He homered and drove in two runs against the Gaithersburg Giants on July 7.
Shane Ennis (Alexandria Aces – Cal Ripken Collegiate League)
Ennis has made five appearances for the Aces, pitching 8.2 innings while striking out 10 batters. On July 13, he struck out a summer-high three batters and allowed one hit in 2.1 innings.
Jimmy Galusky (Santa Barbara Foresters – California Collegiate League)
Galusky has appeared in 22 games for the Santa Barbara Foresters. He has 15 hits, including two home runs and a double, and has scored eight runs. On July 24, Galusky went 3-for-4 against the Conejo Oaks.
Ivan Gonzalez (Cotuit Kettleers – Cape Cod Baseball League)
Gonzalez has made 14 appearances with the Kettleers and has seven hits with two doubles and has scored seven runs. He went 1-for-1 and drew two walks in a 4-0 victory over Wareham on July 26.
Darius Hill (Brewster Whitecaps – Cape Cod Baseball League)
Hill has played in 18 games for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod League, recording five doubles on 12 hits and driving in nine runs. He had one hit and drove in a run on July 13 in a 12-3 win over Falmouth.
Chase Illig (Bellingham Bells – West Coast League)
A 2017 West Coast League All-Star selection and Home Run Derby champion, Illig is batting .331 on the season for the Bellingham Bells. He is tied for first in the West Coast League with 12 home runs and is second in the league with 45 RBIs. He has 45 hits and has scored 26 runs. From July 20-25, Illig had a six-game hitting streak while driving in 19 runs. He recorded a summer-high 5 RBI's and hit two home runs on July 21 against Victoria before being named the league's Player of the Week on July 24.
Isaiah Kearns (D.C. Greys – Cal Ripken Collegiate League)
Kearns has made four starts for the D.C. Greys this summer. He earned his first win on July 17 against the Herndon Braves, allowing just one run on three hits in six innings of work while striking out six. At the plate, Kearns has appeared in 16 games and has 11 hits on the summer, two of them doubles. Since June 27, he has seven hits and has tallied four of his seven RBIs.
Riley Troutt (Winter Park Diamond Dawgs – Florida Collegiate Summer League)
Troutt has appeared in five games on the mound for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs and has made four starts. In addition to his play at Winter Park, he also represented the Florida League at the Southeast Prospect Showcase in Kannapolis, North Carolina, on July 15-16. Troutt is 2-0 with a 2.18 earned-run average this summer, allowing just 16 hits in 24.2 innings. Troutt has 33 strikeouts for the Diamond Dawgs, including 10 against the Winter Garden Squeeze on July 11. In his last outing, Troutt did not allow a run in 7.0 innings of work against the DeLand Suns on July 26. He struck out eight and earned the win.
Brandon White (Winter Park Diamond Dawgs – Florida Collegiate Summer League)
A Florida League All-Star, White has appeared in 18 games for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs this summer. He participated in the Florida League All-Star Game on July 8 and represented the league at the Southeast Prospect Showcase in Kannapolis, North Carolina, on July 15-16. White has recorded 15 hits in 51 at-bats at Winter Park, hitting .294 for the summer. He has registered two home runs and eight RBIs, while also scoring nine runs. On the base paths, White has five stolen bases. Since June 27, he has recorded 11 total hits in all levels of competition.
