MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising West Virginia University sophomore goalkeeper Rylee Foster was named to Canada Soccer’s U-20 Women’s National Team today and will compete at the Australian Three Nations Tournament, July 6-8, in Canberra, Australia.
The Canadians will face the United States on July 6 and Australia on July 8.
The international trip is part of Canada Soccer’s Women’s National EXCEL program, which brings together the best of the best at the national youth level and is designed to deliver an aligned talent structure and system that progresses more top players to Canada’s Women’s National Team.
A native of Cambridge, Ontario, Foster is a two-year member of the U-20 team and most recently competed at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in November.
As a freshman in 2016, she started 17 matches between the posts and earned eight of WVU’s program-record 18 clean sheets. She allowed just seven goals for a 0.42 goals-against average (GAA), the top season mark in Mountaineer history. Foster finished the year ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 Conference, No. 7 nationally, in GAA, and No. 3 in the conference, No. 41 nationally, in shutouts. She garnered NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team accolades and was named to the NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team, as well as the All-Big 12 Second and Freshman Teams.
