MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team closed its 2017 spring slate with a 2-2 draw at Duquesne’s Rooney Field on April 29.
“We were excited to have the opportunity to play Duquesne,” Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “We now head into the summer months knowing what we have to work on for the 2017 season.”
The Mountaineers were forced to battle back from a two-goal deficit, as the Duke’s Katie O’Connor scored in the match’s opening minutes and added a second score 22 minutes into the second half.
Sophomore forward Hannah Abraham cut into Duquesne’s lead with 15 minutes remaining, as she turned with the ball inside the box and sent a low shot past goalkeeper Lexi Cooke.
Classmate Sh’Nia Gordon tallied the equalizer with just six seconds remaining in regulation, as the forward got her toes on the ball inside the box.
The teams will meet again this fall, with the Mountaineers playing host to the Dukes on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 5 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
