SEVILLE, Spain - A LaLiga match between Real Betis Balompié and Atlético de Madrid highlighted the Mountaineers’ seventh day in Spain.
The Mountaineers visited Estadio Benito Villamarín on Sunday to watch a regular season match. The contest ended in a 1-1 draw. Atlético Madrid competed in the Champions League semifinal the last two weeks before falling to Real Madrid. Dani Ceballos scored the first goal for Real Betis at the 57th minute. However, Atlético Madrid responded with a goal nine minutes later from Stefan Savic. A near capacity crowd of 27,159 attended the game.
Earlier in the day, Joey Piatczyc and Albert Andres-Llop visited with Spanish YouTube star Dani Senabre. The two teammates talked about their experience in Spain, the culture in America and the opportunity that WVU and the NCAA provides for college soccer student-athletes.
The team will train at Estadio de La Cartuja and tour Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, home of FC Sevilla, on Monday.
Coverage of WVU’s tour of Spain will continue on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter by following @WVUMensSoccer and by visiting WVUsports.com.
