MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team opens the spring season at VCU on Saturday, April 1, at 7 p.m. ET.
Saturday competition in Richmond, Virginia, is WVU’s first of six spring matches and the only one away from home.
The Mountaineers’ spring roster is headlined by six incoming seniors who played a key role in 2016 as juniors. The list includes defenders Steven James and Louis Thomas and midfielder Joey Piatczyc, who were named team captains in 2017.
WVU is coming off an 8-7-1 season in 2016. The Mountaineers set a program record with seven consecutive shutouts, and coach Marlon LeBlanc won his 100th match at WVU, becoming only the second coach in team history to break the century mark.
VCU is coming off a 8-9-4 campaign in 2016. The Rams advanced to the Atlantic 10 Conference Finals, but lost on penalty kicks against Fordham.
Following Saturday’s match at VCU, the home slate begins on Saturday, April 8, at 2 p.m. ET against Millersville. The Mountaineers then welcome Alderson Broaddus to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. The spring season continues against Marshall on Saturday, April 15, at 3 p.m., before the Mountaineers face Charleston on Tuesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. The spring concludes with the annual Alumni Match on Friday, April 21, at 7 p.m.
All home matches will be played at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium and admission will be free for all fans.
