MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt junior
Zeke Moisey of the West Virginia University wrestling team earned a fourth-place finish in the 125-pound bracket at the 55th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, on Saturday, inside the Sears Centre Arena.
A native of Northampton, Pennsylvania, No. 9 seed Moisey collected a 5-2 overall record at the two-day event, dropping a 15-2 major decision to No. 5 seed Sebastian Rivera of Northwestern in the consolation finals for fourth place. Moisey, ranked as high as 19th in the country, is currently tied with redshirt freshman
Matthew Schmitt for a team-best 11 wins in tournament play this season. Moisey also earned a fourth-place finish at the Clarion Open in early November.
Moisey started the day off with an 8-4 decision over No. 7 seed Travis Piotrowski of Illinois to advance to the quarterfinals in the consolation bracket. He then went on to collect a 7-2 decision over Purdue's Devin Schroder before moving on to the finals with a medical forfeit from unattached wrestler Spence Lee in the semifinal round of competition.

Jacob A. Smith placed eighth in his respective pool of 197 pounds. No. 2 seed Smith picked up a 5-1 decision in sudden victory over No. 6 seed Hunter Ritter of Wisconsin before dropping a 7-4 contest to No. 11 seed Patrick Brucki of Princeton in the consolation quarterfinals.
Looking ahead, West Virginia will take on back-to-back Big 12 foes in Oklahoma and North Dakota State on Jan. 4 and Jan. 7, respectively. The Sooners currently rank at No. 19 nationally, while North Dakota State received two votes during the week of Dec. 19.
Family Day is scheduled for the 7 p.m. Oklahoma match on Thursday, Jan. 4. Families can purchase four tickets and a $15 concession voucher for $25. The Mountaineers last Dollar Day of the season will follow three days later, as the team takes on Big 12 foe North Dakota State in a 7 p.m. match on Sunday, Jan. 7.
