MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior defender Bianca St. Georges of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Second Team.
To be honored, a student-athlete must be a junior or above in academic standing and show a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better throughout her career. Additionally, she must have started more than 50 percent of all games and made a significant contribution to the team.
Eleven different Mountaineers have earned a combined 12 United Soccer Coaches/NSCAA Scholar All-America honors. St. Georges is honored for her academic excellence in consecutive weeks, as she was named an Academic All-America First Team honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Dec. 7.
A native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, St. Georges boasts a 4.0 GPA in exercise physiology.
"It's incredible what Bianca has been able to do in the classroom," Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "Earning a 4.0 GPA in one of the most difficult majors speaks to her hard work and focus. She is able to balance her responsibilities on and off the field at a very high level."
A two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, she also was named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Newcomer Team. St. Georges, a President's List honoree, has also been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
A 2017 team co-captain, St. Georges has started 59 of 60 career matches. Named to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team, she also landed on the All-Big 12 First Team this year.
St. Georges helped the Mountaineer backline post 13 shutouts this season. A two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, she finished second on the team with six assists and ranked sixth with 10 points (2 G, 6 A).
