MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Alli Magaletta and Bianca St. Georges of the No. 7-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team were named to the 2017 Academic All-District 2 Women's Soccer Team today, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The honor is the second career award for St. Georges, a junior defender, and the first for Magaletta, a senior midfielder. The WVU women's soccer program has had two or more honorees in each of the last five seasons.
The duo advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America National ballots, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honors will be selected in the coming weeks. St. Georges was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Soccer Third Team in 2016.
A native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, St. Georges earns the honor for the second straight season boasting a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in exercise physiology. A two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, she also was named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Newcomer Team. A President's List honoree, St. Georges has also been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
A 2017 team co-captain, St. Georges has started 56 of 57 career matches. She was named to the All-Big 12 First Team one week ago and was the 2015 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, as well as an All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Freshman Team honoree.
A two-time Big 12 Defender of the Week this season, St. Georges has helped the Mountaineer backline post 44 shutouts since 2015 and earn three Big 12 Conference titles. Additionally, she shows 16 career points (2 G, 12 A) and ranks No. 2 on the team this season with five assists.
A native of Chesterfield, Missouri, Magaletta shows a 3.91 GPA in exercise physiology. A member of the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, she also has been named to the President's List, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
Since transferring to WVU prior to the 2016 season, Magaletta has started all 46 career matches at defensive center midfield. The Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 24, she ranks No. 2 on the team with 13 points (5 G, 3 A). Three of her goals this season have been game-winners, tops on the team and No. 3 in the Big 12 Conference. Magaletta scored the game-winning goal in three of WVU's final four regular-season games this year, and all but two of her career goals have been game-winners.
Seeded No. 2, the Mountaineers open the 2017 NCAA Tournament against Bucknell on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Tickets for Saturday's match are on sale now at WVUGAME.com. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and youth and $2 for groups of 10 or more. WVU students will be admitted for free with a valid WVU student I.D.
