MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Six West Virginia University men's soccer players have been named to the Academic All-MAC Team, the Mid-American Conference announced today.
Seniors
Jad Arslan and
Steven James, junior
Stephen Banick and sophomores
Sebastian Garcia-Herreros,
Ryan Kellogg and
Logan Lucas were recognized for excelling on the field and in the classroom.
Arslan is honored for the second time in his career after also earning Academic All-MAC accolades last season. Banick, Garcia-Herreros, James, Kellogg and Lucas are recognized for the first time.

An All-MAC First Team honoree, Arslan played in all 19 games with 18 starts. He finished second on the team with four goals and nine points while scoring a team-best three game-winning goals. Arslan is majoring in business and has a 3.21 GPA.
Banick played 11 games in goal, posting a record of 6-3-2 with five shutouts. He made 28 saves and allowed 11 goals in 924 minutes. Banick also was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District Team honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He is majoring in mathematics and has a 3.71 GPA.
Garcia-Herreros played in all 19 games with 18 starts for the Mountaineers. He finished fourth on the team with eight points and second with four assists while scoring two goals, including the game-winner in overtime at SIUE on Nov. 4. Garcia-Herreros has a 3.62 GPA and is a civil engineering major.
Named to the All-MAC Second Team, James led the team with 1,800 minutes played, starting all 19 matches. He helped anchor a defensive unit that had nine shutouts, tied for fifth-most in a season in program history, and a shutout percentage of .500 that ranked No. 17 nationally. James is majoring in sport management and has a 3.41 GPA.
Kellogg started all 19 games for WVU, scoring one goal, the game-winner against Dayton on Sept. 23. He joined James in leading the Mountaineer defense to nine shutouts. Kellogg is majoring in finance and owns a 3.86 GPA and was recognized on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
Lucas started all 18 games he played in as a sophomore. He recorded 14 shots and was sixth on the team with 1,620 minutes played. Lucas is majoring in general business and has a GPA of 3.20.
To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's games.
