WVU Rolls Past Drexel

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Behind 25 points from senior forward Teana Muldrow, the No. 11/13 West Virginia women's basketball team rolled to a 75-42 win over Drexel on the second day of Paradise Jam at Titan Field House on the campus of Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida, on Friday.
Muldrow went 10-for-16 from the field and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the charity stripe to lead the Mountaineers (5-0), adding six rebounds, a block and a pair of steals as well.
Chania Ray hit a trio of shots from the perimeter to total 11 points on the afternoon. She finished with four assists and a pair of steals as well.
Kristina King and Katrina Pardee finished with 10 points each. King just missed a double-double with nine rebounds, but tied her career high with four blocks in addition to four assists. Pardee made a pair of 3-point shots in addition to four rebounds.
Naomi Davenport ended the day with nine points, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
West Virginia shot 56 percent from the field, going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc and 13-for-17 at the charity stripe. The Mountaineers finished with a 34-24 advantage on the glass and eight blocks while limiting the Dragons (2-3) to just 30.2 percent from the field. WVU outscored Drexel 36-8 in the paint and picked up 27 points off turnovers to go with 17 second-chance points.
After an early jumper from Pardee, the Mountaineers and the Dragons traded buckets before treys from Pardee and Ray made it an eight-point lead for WVU at 16-8 with 2:52 to play in the first quarter. Drexel made a three and a jumper to cut WVU's lead to three at 16-13 with 1:33 to play in the quarter. Muldrow hit a jumper, and Davenport added a layup as the Mountaineers ended the first quarter with a 20-13 advantage.
The Mountaineers used a 6-0 run at the start of the second to push their lead to 13 at 26-13 with 8:26 to play in the half. Ashley Jones hit a three to make it a 16-point advantage at 31-15 before Muldrow hit a jumper and a pair of free-throws to push WVU ahead 37-19 to 2:07 to play in the quarter. Ray added a steal and a jumper as West Virginia took a 39-21 lead at the half.
After allowing a Drexel shot from downtown to start the third quarter, West Virginia held the Dragons scoreless from the field throughout the rest of the period. Muldrow put up nine points in the quarter, helping WVU to a 56-29 lead on a pair of free-throws with 1:37 to play in the third.
Pardee added a pair at the charity stripe to make it a 28-point WVU advantage at 58-30 before King went on to hit a last-second shot in the paint, drawing the foul. She sunk the ensuing free-throw to give the Mountaineers a 61-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.
King got the scoring started in the fourth for the Mountaineers before Davenport added a layup for a 64-32 advantage with 7:26 to play. Pardee nailed a three with 5:20 remaining, and the newcomers took over from there. Following a pair of Davenport free throws, redshirt freshman Krystaline McCune put up two in the paint before true freshmen Destiny Harden and Ashley Jones chipped in a layup and a free throw, respectively, to give West Virginia the 75-42 triumph.
West Virginia will cap Paradise Jam with a 6 p.m. tilt against rival Virginia Tech on Saturday.
