
Trio of Wrestlers Rank Nationally

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a week off from competition, three members of the West Virginia University wrestling team rank inside the top 20 of their respective weight classes, as announced by several publications on Tuesday.
Redshirt senior Jacob A. Smith is ranked nationally in the top 7 by a trio of media outlets at 197 pounds. The Charleston, West Virginia, native appears at No. 6 according to Open Mat and is ranked No. 7 by Intermat and FloWrestling.
Redshirt junior Zeke Moisey comes in at No. 12 in FloWrestling's latest top-20 poll. The Northampton, Pennsylvania, native also ranks No. 13 in the Intermat poll and checks in at No. 17 via Open Mat at his weight class of 125 pounds.
At 133 pounds, redshirt freshman Matthew Schmitt enters Intermat's poll for the first time in his career at No. 20. The Platte City, Missouri, native collected three straight victories at the Clarion Open on Nov. 5, before dropped a 4-2 decision to then-No. 8 Domenic Forys of Pitt in the semifinals. He finished the day with a 5-1 record, most notably winning by a fall over Lock Haven's Tyshawn White in 3:56.
The Mountaineers travel to St. Charles, Missouri, for the Lindenwood Open on Saturday, Nov. 18. The tournament is set to begin at 8 a.m. ET.
