Football Friday: TCU Preview
October 06, 2017 06:15 PM | Football
Tony Caridi and the coach, Dwight Wallace, are in Fort Worth, Texas, today to preview Saturday's showdown of two top 25 teams.
Eighth-rated TCU is 4-0 following impressive early-season victories over Arkansas, SMU and Oklahoma State and has never lost at home under veteran coach Gary Patterson when ranked in the top 10.
West Virginia, ranked No. 23, got back into the rankings two weeks ago after starting the season at No. 22. The Mountaineers dropped their season opener against Virginia Tech, 31-24, in Landover, Maryland, but have since registered blowout victories over East Carolina, Delaware State and Kansas.
This weekend, we'll see if WVU can take another big step toward securing its first-ever Big 12 championship under coach Dana Holgorsen at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
A 3:30 p.m. EDT kickoff has been established with FS1 (Aaron Goldsmith, Brady Quinn and Bruce Feldman) televising the game. The Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG's pregame coverage begins at noon with the Mountaineer Tailgate Show leading into regular network coverage at 2:30 p.m. on stations throughout West Virginia, online at WVUsports.com and on the mobile app TuneIn.
ESPN's College Gameday crew is also in Fort Worth this weekend to preview a full Saturday slate of college football games, most notably WVU-TCU.
Here is Saturday's Countdown to Kickoff:
10 - West Virginia has now scored at least 50 points in a game TEN times since Dana Holgorsen has taken over the head coaching reins, including three times so far this season against East Carolina, Delaware State and Kansas.
9 - NINE of the 13 best total offensive performances in school history have come under coach Dana Holgorsen's watch, including the school-record 807 yards produced against Baylor in 2012.
8 - EIGHT different offensive linemen saw action in West Virginia's 56-34 victory over Kansas two weeks ago. One of the Mountaineers' most experienced players is senior left guard Kyle Bosch, who has played 36 career games while making 33 career starts.

6 - Saturday's game against TCU will be the SIXTH meeting between the two schools since joining the Big 12, and the seventh overall. TCU is 3-2 against WVU in the Big 12, but the Mountaineers defeated the Horned Frogs 31-14 in the 1984 Bluebonnet Bowl.
5 - FIVE different Mountaineer players scored touchdowns in their 56-34 victory at Kansas two weeks ago: Kennedy McKoy, Justin Crawford, David Sills V, Mike Daniels Jr. and Will Grier.
