MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Another Saturday means another noon kickoff for the 22
nd-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, which will be facing 11
th-ranked Oklahoma State in what could be a Big 12 Championship game elimination game.
Â
The Cowboys have lost just once in conference play to fourth-ranked TCU so far this year, and bring a gaudy 6-1 overall record into Morgantown this weekend.
Â
Among the four-team logjam in second place behind undefeated TCU is West Virginia, now 5-2 after holding on to defeat Baylor, 38-36, last Saturday in Waco. The Mountaineers, too, were beaten by TCU earlier this season and are looking for a signature home victory to propel it toward bigger things down the road.
Â
And beating a team of Oklahoma State's pedigree would certainly do the trick.
Â
"The atmosphere I know is going to be wild and the guys are looking forward to being here and being able to play this game," West Virginia coach
Dana Holgorsen said. "This series between them and us has been a fun one. We probably know as much about Oklahoma State as we do anybody on our schedule. Oklahoma State probably knows as much about us and anybody on their schedule, so our job as coaches is to put our guys in the best situation we possibly can."
Â
It's Mountaineer Week and the stadium will be decked out in all-blue as part of "True Blue," a promotion encouraging all fans to wear their blue Mountaineer apparel to the game on Saturday. A 10
th anniversary reunion of the 2008 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl team is taking place in Morgantown this weekend and returning team members will be recognized on the field at the end of the first quarter.
Â
"It should be a lot of fun," Holgorsen said.
Â
ABC (Joe Tessitore, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe) will televise the game nationally at noon, while the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG's coverage begins at 8:30 a.m. with the Mountaineer Tailgate Show, followed by regular game coverage with Tony Caridi, Dwight Wallace and Jed Drenning at 11 a.m. on affiliates throughout West Virginia, online via WVUsports.com as well as the popular app TuneIn on your favorite mobile device.
Â
"The good news is we're 3-0 at noon here in Morgantown, so that is going to work in our advantage," Holgorsen said.
